Vanessa trained in the mid 1990’s in Swansea as a Mental Health Nurse. She completed her Diploma in Mental Health Nursing in 1997 and later went on to complete a BSc.(Hon’s) in Nursing. Over the years she then gained a breath of nursing experience working in a variety of mental health settings in primary care, secondary care, specialist services and the prison service. 

In 2004 she worked at a specialist rape and sexual abuse agency; her interest in the field of psychological trauma grew and developed from this. She completed an MA in CBT in 2008. Vanessa has since trained in EMDR therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Mindfulness and has started Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner training. She has an active interest in research based psychological therapies and recently took part in a novel randomised control trial as treating therapist for treatment resistant military service related PTSD.  She has taught on various courses for the NHS and third sector services combining her interest in psychological therapies and the application of such therapies to mental health difficulties, in particular the field of psychological trauma.

Vanessa has been AB UHB Veteran Service Lead since 2011 at Veterans’ NHS Wales in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. This is a specialist service for ex-service personnel with service related mental health difficulties and offers evidence based psychological therapy.
